Hard Drive Unit 1.0 - The Nautilus Koi

The Nautilus are tech scavengers and traders who control the seas. Debris from the old world often found it's way into their tech creations and the science division created this Version 1.0 of the Hard Drive, nicknamed the KOI, from such finds, repurposing various items to create the Unit 1.0. Utilising a number of input and output options due to the varied nature of input and output options of the old tech found at the time, The Nautilus KOI was the first instance of New World data storage and sharing capabilities.

For this project I wanted the art to tell more of a story and give myself a bit more artistic freedom to design something a bit more odd and interesting. Going through various hard surface references I decided to blend a few ideas together and set up a story of scavengers in the far future discovering some old tech.
This prop was inspired by a number of concepts I found when looking for something futuristic to model. I set out to experiment with topology and a new way to approach the render pass with this prop and I'm very happy with the result. I do however welcome feedback and critiques.

Modelled in it's entirety in Maya (Both high and low poly) Textured with Substance Painter and Designer, rendered in Marmoset and completed in Photoshop.
