For this project we had the opportunity to scan and model for VR the Birmingham Royal Ballet at the Hippodrome. We captured a blank stage, the Nutcracker and Swanlake, as well as several props and a few costumes for the Nutcracker that were used as AR models around Birmingham.
The final project has yet to be released however I have been given permission to show off some of the work completed so far. This includes creating three full stages, an auditorium and stage front, that would allow audiences to experience the stage for themselves in VR. This environments combine retopologised assets and modifed scanned assets, to bring the stage to life. As this was for VR we were able to utilise a UDIM workflow for the stages to capture as much resolution as possible from the bakes. As scanned data only has colour, I had to fix areas the scan failed to capture, as well as add the additionla maps of roughness, metallic, normal and AO.
The models were a lot higher poly due to being isolated AR models and also being available on the Birmingham Hippodrome website which allowed me to keep a lot more detail. The main work was done in texture clean up where ever the scanned data had failed. These models can be viewed on the Birmingham Royal Ballet website here: https://www.brb.org.uk/virtual-stage/virtual-stage-ar/christmas-tree.
